What is Apple Strategy?

During my time at business school, I had a great professor for strategy - Violina Rindova. She studied how companies like Apple got a disproportionate amount of press when compared to their market share. This blog is dedicated to diving into why it’s difficult to categorize Apple and why most pundits are always wrong when they write about the next iPod or iPhone-killer.

ADC members should see builds come down regularly for the next month or so. Someone posted the video to, you guessed it, YouTube.

Strategy: Apple’s managing many different product launches and has masterfully crafted customer focus.

No more itemized bills...

I’ve always had at&t post my bills online, but here’s another “oops, we didn’t think the iPhone was going to be big,” moment from our favorite phone company. AT&T’s product management team for the iPhone seems like this is the first time they have ever launched a product.

How do you not test activation systems? Systems integrators like IBM will do load and stress testing to ensure you can support the load.

Now it seems, the smart guys in the product management team didn’t think about itemized phone bills. Customers getting over-billed, not fully understanding international roaming or how to set your account to “online bill only” was just overlooked.

If Apple ran at&t, there would be a lot of product professionals looking for new jobs.

SO...today at 3pm, I get a txt message from AT&T now saying you will need to PAY extra to get itemized billing. That’s right on par.

I can’t believe AT&T didn’t run spell check on the FAQ on their site (“Befroe” - http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/iphone-faqs.jsp#3) I’m in product marketing and I would be embarrassed to let that one slip.

Take a look at the plans above, Apple says you get unlimited night and weekend time, but AT&T says you get only 5,000 minutes.
